Perfect for increasing your vocabulary

5.0 9 months ago

Pros:

I recommend this to everyone I speak to that wants to learn Spanish. It has really helped me increase my vocabulary.

Cons:

"Spanish" is actually Mexican Spanish on the app... rather than Castellano which is Spain's main and official language. The world is biggerthan America but some companies don't allow for that in your software. I know that i can still input Castellano but when learning new words it's not helpful.

Great App for Easy Learning

5.0 5 months ago

Comments: I used Duolingo to help converse with my Portuguese in-laws and also our trip to Portugal. I practiced for about two months prior to our trip with Duolingo. I felt reasonably comfortable reading menus and speaking Portuguese when needed on my trip.

Pros:

I liked that Duolingo used basics to build upon. I also liked the speaking portion of the review so that you know if you are pronouncing words properly.

Cons:

I only used the free application, and felt sometimes frustrated by the limitations of repeating an exercise I had difficulty passing.

Not great no customer service

1.0 3 weeks ago New

Comments: After a year with it I’m not impressed at all.

Pros:

Fun gamification learning environment. Cute but ultimately useless format.

Cons:

App has issues like no sound on listening exercises. Words reviews continually repeats the same words with little advancement. There’s no support or customer service.

Pay me, Sign up now, or Ads

3.0 3 months ago

Comments: The recent changes in the program are too focused on forcing sign-ups. Very annoying, to be constantly bombarded with ads. Too much WOKE influence, language learning is simply not the place for this!

Pros:

Accessiblity, I can do a quick lessons on my phone. Could be a fine app if appropriate changes were made.

Cons:

Too much WOKE, not really appropriate for children, some negative characters, rude comments about others, lack of verb tense background, lack of flexibility in responses. Recent change in heart availability for non-subscribers is set up to try to force payments.

A fun way to learn a language

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I have had a positive experience with Duolingo. I have switched from Duolingo to another platform to increase my ability to instinctively connect the foreign language to words/actions without intermediate english translation steps.

Pros:

I love how accessible Duolingo is! It is nice that there is a free option to test out before upgrading to a paid track. I love how the program is broken down into bitesized pieces. I learned a good basis of a foreign language I had zero experience with before this program.

Cons:

I don't think this way of learning a language is the best option for everyone. This program makes it easier to sound out words and read another language, but doesn't cultivate instinctual understanding of another language. It feels reading and writing heavy and less conversationally based. I think using cartoon characters doesn't connect as well for me.

Best Language-Learning App

5.0 last year

Comments: I have found it to be the most effective, engaging and interesting of language apps I have explored.

Pros:

It is easy to use the app. It is a valuable tool to acquire a second language, or enable me to join in a conversation.

Cons:

There are no cons in my opinion. I have tried other apps, and enjoy it the most.

Duolingo Review: Features and Benefits for Beginners and Advanced Users

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Improve language skills for employment and career purposes,Facilitate communication with co-workers, customers and suppliers in other countriesGain a competitive advantage in international business negotiationsIncrease confidence and the ability to interact with people from different cultures and backgrounds.Access to a wide range of languages and learning contentPossibility to learn at my own pace and at convenient timesLearning in a fun and motivating environment, which helps to maintain interest and engagementTime and money savings compared to face-to-face classes or traditional language courses.

Pros:

Most important features for users:Interactive lessons that include speech recognition and listening, writing and reading exercisesA gamification system that includes fun themed lessons and rewards to keep users motivatedThe option to customize the learning path to meet users' individual needs, such as focusing on specific skills or learning vocabulary related to a certain topicI generally find Duolingo easy to use, thanks to its intuitive interface and well-designed features. The platform is easy to navigate and the lessons are clearly organized. They also have access to help features, such as the option to view translations and tips on how to complete the exercises.Duolingo is a language learning platform designed primarily for personal use. While the company offers options for enterprises and educational institutions, integrating with existing business processes can be more challenging and may require additional support for customization and configuration. However, Duolingo is an affordable and user-friendly tool that can be of benefit to individuals and organizations looking to improve their language skills.

Cons:

Some translation issues can be inconsistent or confusingThe limited availability of languages for learning in some countriesMore customization options to let users focus on specific skills like speaking or grammarMore features to practice speaking skills, such as speaking with native speakers or recording and listening to your own voiceImprovements in correcting grammar and spelling errors to provide more detailed feedback on user performance.I think Duolingo's interface can be a bit confusing, especially for beginners.I also think that the teaching method can be very repetitive and boringProblems with voice recognition and error detection accuracy.Duolingo is a language learning platform aimed primarily at personal use. While the company offers options for businesses and educational institutions, integrating with existing business processes might not be relevant to me. However, if I want to learn a language for work purposes I may find Duolingo useful in improving my language skills.

Great Concepts but Poor Execution

2.0 8 months ago

Comments: it's ok.
I am learning Spanish, but it's very frustrating to lost points or not get the points I worked hard to obtain.

Pros:

I like the lessons, the ways to learn. Duolingo used to have Podcasts in the language I am learning and in English, so I could listen and learn. That was discontinued.

Cons:

It's a total competition! And lately, either the points are wrong or I get no points at all (like this morning) for 20 minutes of learning. Don't get me wrong, I'm still learning, but if Duolingo is going to force you to compete, I need my points.

Fun and easy to learn tool.

5.0 8 months ago

Comments: The learning trails keep me hooked at every stage. I learn quickly, practically and with fun. I like it a lot.

Pros:

An app that's like a language school. It's easy to learn, and it's fun, because the stages and the learning path keep you hooked on the app.

Cons:

The cost could be a little lower, but I understand, because as I said, the learning is comparable to face-to-face schools. It's just as good. But because it's an app, it could be cheaper.

Good for Dabbling

4.0 9 months ago

Pros:

The ease of use is the first highlight of this app. The second would be how the app, at least to some extent, ensouls the process of learning a completely foreign and new language.

Cons:

There is an insistence on keeping things fun while learning, which is great, but there is also a lack of depth beyond a certain level of learning. This dilutes the commitment to learning and practicing in the short term.

Great for learning simple phrases

4.0 8 months ago

Pros:

Really good way to pick up the basics of a language in an engaging way and can be done flexibly.

Cons:

Most of the phrases you learn on the first few levels are fairly unhelpful in daily conversation. Lots of ads on free version which can get a little annoying.

Great Lessons—Intrusive Ads

5.0 last year

Comments: 50/50. Great learning but dreadful marketing. Either make the whole program a paid subscription or split it for users to choose, but don’t harass them.

Pros:

The lessons with listening, composing alternation

Cons:

The unrelenting pressure to try Super Duolingo. It started with “no thanks” options, progressed to pop up ads with a loud voice that disrupted concentration, and finally a three day trial button from which, if you accidentally clicked, there was no way out. The program started with 14 lessons and was decreased to just 3. They were progressively putting more and more pressure to go to Super Duolingo. I did not like this experience.

Learn new languages with ease

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I have really enjoyed learning a new language with Duolingo, it made it accessible and fun and fit into my busy time table.I have completed one tree and now am starting a new language.

Pros:

Easy to use with helpful reminders in a busy work schedule.Lessons can be short enough to do on your break or you can do multiple, this can be managed with goals of how much you want to achieve.

Cons:

Some parts are repetitive and new ways to learn and be assessed would help with engagement and retention of people using the app.

Learning languages with Duolingo

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I have been using Duolingo for many years for different languages. I started with English, then French and now also Italian. I use it mainly as another learning method since I can use it from anywhere at any time. I find it practical and quick to learn.

Pros:

Duolingo is great! I learn English in a fun way. Interactive exercises and short lessons make everyday learning easy. It's engaging, accessible, and a great complement to other learning methods. I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn a new language in an entertaining way.

Cons:

Duolingo is a useful tool for language learners and especially for beginners. Also for those of us looking for an introduction to a new language. But to achieve higher levels it is necessary to complement it with more complete resources, with real life practices.

Good starting point but no customer service

2.0 last year

Comments: Good attempt at learning, but non-existent customer service gives this program a 2 thumbs down.

Pros:

Looks easy, and interface seems simple enough. Lower price than other language learning courses, screens are generally not too busy and very clean. Somewhat easy to get around and straight forward clicking on tabs makes it more easy to use.

Cons:

No customer service, they do not reply to questions. For example, I purchased a year with understanding I would not be required to purchase in-app tokens - this was not true, nor not mentioned before buying. Furthermore, after a few sessions, I wanted to cancel, but found out once you pay, you cannot get your money back. You have to wait one year before that can happen. Because there is no communication, if you fall for the sales pitch, your done.
