choose better software

What is Retool?

Retool is an application development platform that enables developers to combine the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI to build internal tools radically faster.

Building in Retool fits with how you develop software today—deploy it anywhere, connect to any internal service, import your libraries, debug with your toolchain, and share it securely to users—ensuring good and well-governed software by default.

Retool is used by industry leaders such as Amazon, American Express, DoorDash, OpenAI, and Mercedes Benz for mission critical custom software across operations, billing, and customer support.

Who Uses Retool?

Retool is primarily for developers and engineering leaders who are familiar with JavaScript and SQL. If you are at a tech-forward company and solve internal business problems with code, Retool is for

Couldn't live without it

5.0 last year

Comments: Retool has cut down our cost of internal software development by a factor of 100 (We have over 40 internal apps, and I didn't have to hire engineers to build them). Even better, between the AI features and embedding, it makes the cost of iteration and learning virtually $0 even when I'm deploying no-code apps embedded within my own software to end users.

Pros:

Everything. They're always adding new features, the AI support is great, the integrations are world-class, it's always easy to add new integrations they don't have, and their webinars and material make it easy to stay on the cutting edge. On top of that, their embedded apps make it easy to deploy new features in beta to end users and see how they use them, iterating rapidly before committing to a full build.

Cons:

The UI can get a little cumbersome and slow, but that's mostly due to the complexity they're managing.

Great to produce a complete internal dashboard/tool

5.0 2 months ago New

Comments: Good experience, much better dashboard for our company.

Pros:

We were using a google sheet with app script to track all our internal metrics, it was cumbersome and at the end not flexible at all. The separation between, connectors, data and layout is amazing in retool. I did a complete dashboard with ~10 datasources in 24h

Cons:

I would love to have the ability to make paginated API call without JS function which need to be run manually.

"Best Software for keeping information"

3.0 4 years ago

Comments: It's has other best features which you can relate with

Pros:

I think the pricing is a little bit okay for a single user in a month and it also has a free trial Good for training in person and online and can connect to any data sources with it's API Also good for documentation of different informations in one source.

Cons:

I have to start it several times thinking it's my internet connection that is faulty or having a problem not knowing it's the software that is a bit too slow on its self

The Perfect Blend of Low-Code Convenience and Developer Flexibility

5.0 2 months ago New

Comments: My experience has been great coming from another low-code application development platform. I really appreciate the forum and discord for supporting my questions and resolving blockers. The platform is ahead of others with version control and customization.

Pros:

The variety of components to build out a quick UI make for easy implementation that is modern and user friendly. Connecting to data and writing queries is seamless, and there is a good balance of abstraction but flexibility to write code when needed.

Cons:

Manually implementing CRUD operations for each table. Having native actions already enabled on the table based on the source of data would be great and save time building.

Great product for sales and customer service

4.0 2 months ago New

Comments: It is easy to use and shows a good overview of customer's accounts. The one thing that could help improve the user experience is to have icons that explain what entails each field on the app.

Pros:

it integrates with alot of custom fields to our sales process and gives a great detailed overview of the customer's journey.

Cons:

I feel like some fields could be more detailed, for ex. what triggers actions to block certain user.

Fantastic hassle free Lo-code platform

4.0 last year

Comments: Great option for SMEs and larger businesses. Much easier to use than the Power Suite from Microsoft and very cost efficient.

Pros:

Its ease of use and low barrier to entry but is extensible using python and/or javascript. The scope for integrations is great and the fledgling community forum is a useful place for assistance and inspiration.

Cons:

The changes to the licensing model in the last year encourage anti-patterns of large and complicated workflows vs small atomic workflows. The lack of API signing is a frustration, and the lack of custom credential management makes working around the lack of signing risky.

Retool - admin tools at your fingertips with the addition of custom workflows and braod intergrations.

5.0 last year

Comments: My experience has been nothng other than positive. With a great community, and questions forum, the journey thus far has been utmost productive.

Pros:

The fact I build my own admin tools, connecting to so many data sources, from MongoDB, Firebase, FaunaDB as well as Stripe, enabled me to get up and running in record time. This alone is great but with the added workflow automations, apis, and custom javascript you can implement in any step of the process, Retool has become an essential part of my business.

Cons:

The mobile app / web app build interfaces are completely separate and could be better intergrated.

The Tool You Need is Retool

5.0 last year

Comments: Overall, Retool was a user-friendly tool and it is very easy to use. I was able to learn how to navigate within an hour and how to read the data. Reading the data became easy, as it was well-placed and organized, still is. The changes I made also reflect timely on our customer's side.

Pros:

With Retool I was able to see the changes on our customer's performances quickly. The data are real time and easy to read. I was also able to tell if the fitness equipment they are using are faulty. Hence, it let me pinpoint were the issue is coming from.

Cons:

When I use the search box and it loads, sometimes I would need to refresh the data fields as well because the last data for a different customer/client is still there.

Comments: Retool has become our daily go-to for pulling up and keeping tabs on our customers' device data. It's like a treasure trove of insights on workouts and offers a breeze to adjust user permissions. Thanks to Retool, those everyday tasks have become a piece of cake!

Pros:

It's super easy to use, and I can quickly access a customer's device identification, which is a real plus! What's even better is that it doesn't hog up much RAM, and it offers a variety of features to fine-tune user permissions for each customer. It's a win-win!

Cons:

Nothing so far! It's convenient and super fun to use!

Retool Review

5.0 2 years ago

Pros:

I like how you can easily track member's historical data in correlation to their Max HR by filtering certain categories. You can also sort it - just however you think would be best for you to review one's data. It also queries faster now than before.

Cons:

I think it would be great to have a feature that shows who made what changes for everyone's visibility. This can easily manage or address gaps and knowledge opportunity

Internal tooling for the efficient Application Development.

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: If you are a small company wants build an simple to use for minimal users retool is the perfect fit it, Please do a research and compare the pricing with other similar services.

Pros:

Retool offers various features to like about, the top features are support for drag and drop components, Web Based Development console, multiple integrations with various third party services are the features we are mostly used in retool.

Cons:

Retool has all the features we required to build the internal tools, But when it comes to pricing retool is not an affordable option and it is not flexible with the pricing too.

No Code Admin Portal

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: I would really suggest using this to save time and build similar portals, it's made our life really easier.

Pros:

We build a no-code admin portal for our users to enable/disable certain features and provide support for our customers. We are a startup and dynamically need to build something from the ground up. We already have Google firebase firestore as our database just for that reason and building an Admin/support portal for our client has helped us keep the application itself clean with minimum settings and improve our UX while cutting costs by a lot. We even configured custom events for notifications directly to our customers' mobiles where it was needed with very minimal code.

Cons:

Not managing the queries properly become a hurdle for new people onboarded to find the right option or setting in shortest time, which partially was our fault for not making correct tabs.

Excellent tool for building low code internal tools in less time

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Excellent experience.

Pros:

I like their website and intuitive UI the most. It is easy to understand and has many building blocks that help me create the complete UI by dragging and dropping. Moreover, I was able to connect to multiple databases using REST & GraphQL which made my life easier. They support a large number of native integrations like MySQL, Google Sheets, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, AWSLamda, and much more. For custom code, I was easily able to write queries on their tool and save them for future implementation.

Cons:

No cons identified so far. It is the best tool if you know little bit of coding, and it helps you develop tools very quickly.

Build Internal Tools without Engineers - Quick & Easy

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: It's been great. The functionality is great, let's you do what you've created and intended for.

Pros:

The fundamental ability to quickly create apps and help the internal team to operate in a more efficient manner is extremely good.

Cons:

The UI and UX is extremely basic. It feels like I'm in a 90s movie manoeuvring through it.

Best tool I've ever worked with

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

Very easy and quick to build and deploy. Lot's of great elements. Constant improvements and new features.

Cons:

It's really hard to find something to complain about. Maybe the development for mobile (the old one, not the one in beta for native mobile apps)... I usually build for desktop and then basically have to do everything again in the layout (and its implications) for mobile.

There are also tons of great integrations/services that will make your life easier and more productive! The tutorial/guides are well explained, and the support helped quickly when needed.

Cons:

There are some missing integrations, but nothing that you can't handle.
