Avimark Covers It All!

Comments: We're a 24/7 emergency and general practice facility and we use Avimark as our main software. We use it for scheduling, uploading patient labs, the worklist feature for team communications and tasks. We utilize the timeclock feature as well as the different reporting features as well.

Pros:

Of every veterinary software I've ever used- Avimark is definitely the most user friendly and has the most features integrated directly into the software. Patient labs, timeclock, etc.

Cons:

There isn't anything I don't like about this software. It covers every need that my hospital needs.

Not a Fan

Comments: Not impressed.

Pros:

Very simple to learn - basic features. Ideal for a GP practice.

Cons:

We are a high volume multispecialty and ER veterinary practice. We need a robust electronic medical record system with ability to send records to referring vets electronically (not available with Avimark).

Good PIMS system foe veterinary office

Comments: Use daily, very familiar with the features. Easy to upate client files and communication. Resembles doss programming, could make visually more appealing but does what it needs to do well

Pros:

All my inventory, patient records, and staff login is easy to use and understand. Work communication is made easier with work lists. Integrates with idexx lab results

Cons:

Can be slow, often when it updates we have issues with labs and error messages and have to call tech support for assistance

Software system that meets our needs

Comments: We have only used Covetrus Avimark as our software system so I cannot compare it to any of the other systems. However, we are very pleased with the way Avimark has helped bring our practice into the 21st century in office efficiency. I only wish there were periodic email reminders, such as "Hey, have you tried this Hotkey/Shortcut idea?" I say this because I'm sure there are many additional helpful applications that we are not aware of nor even trying to use. This would be very helpful for not only any new clinics using Avimatk, but also, new hires having to learn the system already established.

Pros:

Technical support is AMAZING! We are able to keep track of all clients and patients in an orderly manner.

Cons:

Whenever we do an Avimark update, we have technical problems, our third parties have to update, and our IT person has to do a system reboot. It often times causes great problems, especially if it occurs over the weekend when no Avimark support is available for assistance.

Comments: Pretty good.

Pros:

I think it is user friendly and easy for new staff to learn.

Cons:

The site features and security features are lacking in some areas, especially email and radiographs integration. I feel like when a client is added in boarding it should automatically be added to the client database.

The thing i loved about Avimark was how easy it was to navigate. You are able to do and send multiple things from one screen.

The thing i disliked the most about Avimark, was how many times the serve would go down and how slow the software became.

Avimark VS Web based software

Pros:

Ease of use. Does not take multiple steps to accomplish one task. Running reports takes time, but easy to accomplish.

Cons:

Lack of SMS integration, lack of ability to email from Avimark, directly. Lack of online bill pay

Covetrus and your solution for a veterinary practice.

Comments: We changed online pharmacies and found that Covetrus has a compounding side of the online pharmacy. We get alot of use out of this feature.

Pros:

I love the online pharmacy and the fact that they try to match the prices of other online pharmacies. Its really easy to recommend a product to a client and they can then check out with said product.

Cons:

I don't like how when clients can't remember their log on information we often find multiple client / pet information in the system. And it would be nice if it can be merged but we have to archive.

Comments: Overall, we are extremely satisfied with Avimark. It is easy to use and has many functions.

Pros:

It is easy to use and has many different functions. We use it for scheduling, patient / client management, and record keeping.

Cons:

I don't like ow reminders are handled. We had to integrate a second service to handle our reminders. Sending digital forms directly from Avimark would also be great!

Comments: Our clinic likes avimark as it suited our needs the the doctor had its for over 10 years.

Pros:

Avimark was nice as it had short hand codes that you could use to get to different areas within the program and also to check clients out.

Cons:

Seemed outdated by the look of it and since it wasn’t cloud based couldn’t use it from home.

Simplify your flow - Avimark is easy to learn and easy to use.

Comments: We have used Avimark for decades, it meets our daily needs for a busy multi doctor practice. Adding new species recently was painless.

Pros:

avimark has so many options that it is easily customizable. Use what benefits you and leave the rest. We don't use all it has to offer, but can bring it on when we are ready.

Cons:

Avimark can be confusing without proper training.

I love Avimark

Comments: Love it.

Pros:

No more paper! So easy to send records, schedule appointments, attach emailed images, etc. Customer support is amazing. Avimark is so straight forward yet, I learn new tricks that make life so much easier. If you don't use this software, you're wasting time and doing a disservice to your patients and clients!!

Cons:

Save your emails that you're sending through avimark because if you have a space at the end after copying and pasting a clients email in the "to" line, it counts it as an invalid email and closes out the entire message you just typed out.

Thorough program for all veterinary needs

Comments: Over the past 6 years of using this program our veterinary clinic has grown, and this software has expanded with us. Originally we only had a handful of computers, where as now we have almost 30 running the medical program. I love the ease of use, for our staff, which helped to improve efficiency. Our staff, can room a client, the doctor can see the patient medical records and put in charges in the room, and we can finalize and check out the client in the room. It has made the process easy to have the client in one space, with no confusion.

Pros:

AVImark has helped our veterinary clinic by being able to create reports for statistics, keep in contact with our clients, and have thorough records. We have our in-house labs all where they 'talk' to AVImark, which is helpful for our doctors when talking with clients. When looking for a particular answer to a question, such as how many exotic pets did we see this year, or what doctor sees the most patients in a particular zip code, we can create a report for those answers. Over the past 6 years of using this program, there has only been a handful of reports that I could not create, which is spectacular for a numbers person! We have data at the tip of our fingers at any given point.

Cons:

The integration and transfer of data from AVImark into Quickbooks can be a challenge at times. There are some payment forms that do not transfer out 'clean' into a Quickbooks file, that requires a little work on the back end, like care credit payments. In addition, we implemented AVImark originally for the improvement of our inventory, and set up an entire system with barcode. Although you can sell product like a typical point-of-sale system with the barcode scanner, on the Receiving-end you cannot receive inventory by utilizing a barcode, which still leaves room for errors.

Avimark has many fine qualities.

Comments: Overall it is great for our purposes.

Pros:

Avimark has many fine qualities, and many built-in features that make it a very detailed program.

Cons:

The dental charts - Dental charts are too generic. Need to have Triadan number system. We would like to attach all dental xrays as one attachment. We would also like to be able to schedule some 10/20 appointments - while others are 15 minute appointments. Overall it is great for our purposes. Paying for customer service is ok for extenuating circumstances, but Avimark should provide a basic level of support for purchasing their product. Even tiered charges for different levels of support or fees, as needed.

Legacy product that continues to deliver

Comments: Easy to use, performs well and anytime I've had the need to contact Customer Support they have been helpful and resolved any issues or questions. Very friendly staff.

Pros:

AVIMARK software is one of the 'old school' software packages and handles every step of the workflow from the time the client and pet enters the hospital until they leave; good record keeping features, and ability to plug in to other software service add-ons. Also, AVIMARK includes a general ledger interface that allows your daily revenue to transfer automatically into your accounting software, saving time and ensuring accuracy. Internal Wellness Plans are a big help.

Cons:

The screens are looking a little outdated now and they are very 'busy' with lots on information; could probably be reorganized to have a more up to date look and feel.

Comments: Over all I have been very happy with Avimark operation. I was an early user in the DOS days and have continued to recommend it to other practices. I am concerned with Avimarks long term survival because of the coding limitations and that Covetrus has other PMS that compete against it. I'm not sure that Covetrus gives Avimark needs a priority and we feel we've seen a decrease in levels of support when they took over.

Pros:

Avimark has been one of the most user friendly PMS I've worked with (worked with four other platforms). The ability to merge info from the PMS to a MSWORD document makes it so that all of the documents we sent out look clean and well formatted. Having all the information on one display is nice. Ability to search for a service or product by enter parts of it in the description is a handy search feature. The information search has a significant learning curve but is a great tool once you know how to use it. Report features are great. There are almost too many security options but ability to create different authorized groups is handy. Being able to run it on any station and not require a new license for every station is great. The Sidekick feature looks great and was handy the couple times I worked with it. The options that the More Stuff fields give you for collecting and charting data is handy and make for clean looking records.

Cons:

The difficulty for the program to evolve because of its coding is disappointing. It's network dependence and hiccups that happen on wifi is disappointing. Inability to attach documents other than doc files to treatments/inventory is less than ideal when many of the handouts we have are pdfs. With one of the most recent reminder upgrades the ability to modify them has been restricted.

The best out there, but it needs improvement.

Comments: We like using this software and recognize it is the best in the industry, however as the times change and the digital age is more prevalent, updates to the software for ease of use and utilization need to be made. We have looked to switching software, but others are worse. We would like to feel that this is the best option, not the best of the worst options.

Pros:

Scheduling is intuitive. Reports for inventory as well as billing and invoicing make overall function of the hospital smooth. Support is FABULOUS and they are quick to respond and attempt to solve every problem quickly.

Cons:

Search function is limited and often times, comes back with "No client/patient found" even if they do exist. Reminders are difficult to manage, get messed up frequently, and are impossible to stay on top of. Emails through Avimark to clients will not let you leave the screen and don't always post to the history. Emailing treatment plans is difficult. Recurring payment plans FREQUENTLY have errors or cannot be fixed if set up improperly. Need to be able to search ANY phone number on an account, not just primary. Reprinting receipts generate errors.

Decent Software

Comments: Overall, Avimark is a good product for its usability of ease of use. There are a lot of new faces in vet med and this software is easy to learn. I have used several other products and Avimark is not my favorite but I'm learning to enjoy it more as I learn more about it. Customer service is top notch though! Always friendly and helpful when I need help with something.

Pros:

Avimark is pretty user friendly. It's easy to teach and learn how to operate. The worklists are a great tool and help us keep our clinic on track to ensure our clients needs are met in a timely fashion.

Cons:

It seems like there are a lot of extra "clicks" needed to get to some of the information. It would be great to streamline some processes to make it more efficient (especially in terms of attaching documents). The refill function is finicky and the inventory function is difficult to use. I also do not like having to do a Global Apply to do things with reminders. It's almost impossible to shut down the entire system during a working day to make this happen.

User friendly but thorough

Comments: We were able to become paperless and do away with paper charts.

Pros:

It is very easy to use. It is windows based therefore it is easy to train new people to use. There are multiple ways to search for client/patient info. Reports are easy to run. White board makes keeping track of patients and patient plans easy. Entering line items is easy and you can enter inventory in thto the line item. When scheduling, you can change colors to help keep track of appointment types. You can create canned notes in the glossary to make note keeping easy. It is easy to create canned estimates and post them into the chart. Employees have to sign in therefore you have a trail to keep track of who has done what. You can create word documents and have the client/patient information autofilled which makes discharge instructions easy.

Cons:

The customer service is not as available and user friendly as they could be. Fortunately we don't have to call very often. The only con in regards to software, is that you cannot time stamp the posting time to know when a client checked out.

Avimark is a solid choice in the Veterinary Vertical

Comments: I have been actively using this system since the 1990's and find it far superior to others on the market. I find the charts read more clearly than their competitor, and I like that each hospital can customize which features they wish to use. They have a great customer support team whenever I have questions which gives me great comfort because this program can do so much.

Pros:

We find the scheduling to be easy, even for our new hires. The drop down windows are very intuitive. The same can be said for SOAP notes and charting. We are a paperless hospital so all chart notes, medications and instructions are clear for all staff to see and follow, even from multiple computer stations simultaneously. We appreciate this flexibility as some patients require several staff members to be active participants at once.

Cons:

As they are always improving, there are frequent software upgrades. It does make the system work better and allow for more features, but upgrades require our IT team to be available during our off hours.

Great, but out-dated

Comments: It's near my heart as I have used it my entire career. I feel like I grew up with Avimark. But I'm slowly and sadly realizing it will soon be time to part ways for a more modern PMS.

Pros:

I've seen Avimark work in a variety of clinics: mixed practice, bustling 5 doctor practice doing clinical trials, single doctors practice, and even facilities with flourishing boarding, grooming, and daycare services. It is versatile and can be customized to fit whatever you need. The reporting features can be difficult to grasp, but the data that you can accumulate is exceptional. You can learn the program quickly and accomplish complete a task a few different ways, which allows employees to find a protocol that they best click with.

Cons:

The Boarding calendar is atrocious. There is no way to mark a holiday, set a block off, or really have any type of parameters set before allowing reservations to be booked. Reservations get covered up/hidden if they overlap (one pet check out and a new one checks in the same day)...which is the goal to maximize your facility. Ultimately, however, the biggest downfall is that server-based PMS will soon be extinct. Avimark is ancient and clinging to a world of rapidly expanding cloud-based PMS. If you have paper charts and are looking for an easy way to dip your toe into paperless, then go for it. If you are modern and want your PMS to match the caliber of medicine you offer, keep looking.

Avimark for Specialty Practice

Comments: The customer service is great. It functions but I would like to use the software more to fit specialty practice.

Pros:

Ease of estimates, looking at medical history and a lot of the reporting features.

Cons:

We are specialty dental practice, things that would be nice is having multiple referral choices would be nice especially when we are creating referral letters. Being able to email treatment plans directly out of Avimark to the email on file or adding additional emails if necessary. We work with a Cardiology practice they have Easyvet. There referral letter process in amazing. I would like a spot for better communication between staff on a patient so when they call you don't have to go diving into the record to find the recommended recheck. lots and lots of things. I have use Avimark when I worked in GP. I came to this hospital that the original doctor purchased Avimark in1993. I would love to switch to a different software, but I have only heard horror stories and that is the main reason I have not switched at this time. We had to purchase a different dental charting software which is hard to integrate with Avimark.

Avimark/Sidekick Program Use

Comments: Through the 11 years we have used as a 100% mobile veterianary practice, it has not been bad, but the [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] feels it is now becoming antiquated and not keeping up with the beauty of other products out there.The Import/Refresh process is cumbersome. We would go with on of them in a cloud storage format if we could get reliable connection at all time. At this point satellite is still to expensive.

Pros:

Some of the reporting possibilities and protection against human error - changes require confirmations.

Cons:

Tech support has declined in recent years on the Sidekick support side. We have had difficulties and techs have not been able to clearly research and help. The Guardian addition complicated the process and we have more issues since its implementation. Techs are not writing clear enough notes in our files to then have someone go back and review what they did/suggested/could not do.
