Comments: Really helpful when looking for certain people with certain skills or talent

Pros:

Easy to use, has a very wide platform, and a lot of talented individuals on this app. Though we need to filter it carefully to avoid scams

Cons:

Sometimes the notifications don't pop up which is sad because it's important so we can reply to talents and clients on time.

A company that does not care about its freelancers

1.0 4 years ago

Pros:

Nothing, horrible experience with a company that does not do what it preaches.

Cons:

I joined Upwork in March 2020 without initially having any intention to do any freelancing. A few days later, a client invited me to bid for their project. It was a very small project at that time, but it slowly became a much bigger project. I had some small contracts with other clients too, but rather small. I was in the top 3% of freelancers and used to get a few requests and invites for jobs every week. Beginning of April, Upwork sent an email to both I and my main client to say that they were "reviewing" our contract. Now, mind you, that contract has been into place for a year and we never had any issues with it. They have asked us for a ton of papers and both me and the client provided them with everything. It was a painful process and then a few days later Upwork suddenly sent us an email (me and the client) saying that our accounts have been suspended. This came as a big surprise, especially since they even wanted to disclose the reason behind it was. Both I and the client were honest, payment was being done timely and I always had 100% job success rate. Moreover, any other active contracts that I had were also cancelled, meaning there is no way to collect the money now from those clients nor from my biggest client either. I have messages Upwork a few times and tried to understand why my account has been suspended, which again, they just ignored. It is a very frustrating experience when you pay over $3000 in commission to Upwork for a year and get shut down....

Great for Remote work networking!

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: This software has made it more possible for me to connect with employers from around the world. Also, the platform protects the workers from a possible scam to occur with an employer.

Pros:

I like most that this software allows people from all over the world to connect with each other in one big workplace.

Cons:

What I like least is that you now will have to purchase connects in order to apply for a job. I think it's difficult for persons to be seeking jobs to get money and have to spend to get that job.

Such a great marketplace that love clients and freelancers both

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: My overall experience is fantastic with Upwork, it's super easy to use, highly secured and a lot helpful. It helped me to grow my business and take it to the next level. If I need a talented person, Upwork is my only choice even If I want to provide services around the world, Upwork is my only choice.

Pros:

One of the best freelancing platforms out there in terms of security it provides for money transfers between seller & freelancer. I like so many things about this freelancing marketplace especially the hiring system. As a client, I can easily tell the freelancer what I need, and the suitable freelancers bid on the post, this process always helps me to find out a talented person. There is no spam here, freelancers are so serious about their job. Even I can pay the freelancer by using the best suitable method and way such as the hourly or fixed project.

Cons:

I have used Upwork from both sides, as a freelancer and as a client. Overall everything was really amazing except few things from the freelancer side. Upwork certificate has a tight limitation, people who have WordPress related or other certificates, can't add it to their profile because there is no option. As a result, a freelancer can't add his perfect skill proof to the profile. Upwork has released a new feature called Project Catalog. This whole functionality seems not completed yet, there is no analytics option on it. There is another issue I've noticed from the client-side. If the payment method is not verified, freelancers don't bid on the job post. A new client who joined Upwork just now maybe one day or two days ago, they don't know anything about it. So, they send job posts without verifying their payment method. I think Upwork should have a functionality that no one can send job posts with an account that does not have a verified payment method.

Cons:

The only limitation is that It is quite costly but at the same justifiable and also on the part of freelancers it is quite hectic building up your reputation on Upwork and getting long term clients on Upwork

Upwork is an awesome plateform for freelancers

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: It was my first experience working as a freelancer at Upwork, and it's been excellent till now. I have been learning and polishing my skills day by day as a professional freelancer. Upwork is doing a great job by providing online jobs worldwide. It's the fantastic platform ever.

Pros:

Although I am doing a job, Upwork is still my favorite platform to utilize my spare time to use my skills as a freelancer. It’s a source of income for me. Upwork provides me the fastest way to interact with millions of freelancers worldwide. Almost every profession is available at Upwork, where we can utilize our skills to make money or get our project done. The way how to support the team of Upwork communicate with new freelancers is inspiring for me. They guide me at every stage to get my desire project. They told me how to build eye-catching proposals, set milestones, fix budgets, and more. Upwork also sharpens my skills, interacting with individuals to get hired for a specific project, making my communication skills better, an extra benefit of Upwork, and getting up. It’s not a complicated platform, easy to present yourself and your skills, convince the client and start earning by staying at home. Its job-finding mechanism is so cool; by applying filters, you can get the most favorite job. Freelancers bid for a proposal; instead, they can make their project sell out; it’s another fantastic feature for me.

Cons:

Upwork has a strict policy for freelancers to use this platform reasonably. It's a fine thing, but when making a little mistake, they block your account witout telling the reason. In most cases, freelancers would not be able to withdraw the amount that they earned. But I am okay with it now, as these are requirements for fair use of this platform.

I love the Upwork App!

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Upwork has been an amazing platform to find freelancing opportunities. I would recommend it to anyone that is look for remote work opportunities.

Pros:

This app has made it so easy to apply to freelancing positions and go through the interview process. The chat feature is easy to use, the job search page is one of the best ones I've ever seen for a freelancing website, and the work tracker works really well. I also love the pay options they offer such as direct deposit and paypal.

Cons:

I can't think of anything that I don't like about the app besides wishing that they would lower their job fees.

Best platform for Freelancing

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Overall, Upwork to me is the best freelancing platform. I have used all the biggest platforms and in some of them, it is almost impossible to get jobs, in others, there are a lot of people trying to scam you. Upwork provides a great experience to the freelancers and I would recommend everyone to use it, as a client or as a freelancer.

Pros:

Upwork is a pretty straightforward website to navigate. It has a lot of new jobs every second and, as a translator, it helped me a lot getting new clients and projects. 99% of my clients come from Upwork and I couldn't be more satisfied with the platform. Its security is also a big advantage to the clients and the freelancers since it filters scammers that can be very common on other freelancing platforms. Customer service has always been 5*. From a client's point of view, if you need something done, there are thousands of professionals that can deliver high-quality services.

Cons:

It can be a bit expensive working on Upwork since having a basic plan only gets you 10 connects per month but you can get up to 50 additional connects per week if the clients reply to your proposal.

Fantastic for finding and working with contractors

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: I've used it on both the client and contractor side, and love the protections it offers on both sides. Large talent pool for clients and contractors alike, which is why they charge the fees I discuss. At the end of the day, if you need contract labor, or are looking for contract work, this is the creme de la creme in my opinion.

Pros:

It's like having escrow and a mediator for any client/contractor relationship. I've worked as both a client and contractor on the platform and love what it offers. As the client is that the fees are primarily paid by the contractor. I feel like perhaps this should be split between both parties, but that's just my two cents. It protects both client and contractor making sure that the work gets done before payment, and that the contractor gets paid if the work is completed to spec. They have a time tracking tool that takes screenshots of the contractors screen to ensure they are working on the client's project, and not billing for browsing FB or Twitter.

Cons:

As a contractor, the initial fees are 20%, which feels a bit steep. They do add a lot of value in terms of the client pool, and I realize they are in it to make money, but as an American contractor competing in the global economy, I find I have to underprice my services to compete already, before the 20% cut that Upwork takes. I finally worked my way up to Top Rated, which means I only pay 10% on some projects, and the 20% can also be reduced on long term projects, but that's my only gripe. Otherwise, I love the marketplace it offers. Important caveat: What I mention above may be a perk if you are a client looking to hire talent on Upwork.

Professional workplace for Work Beyond the Borders

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Overall Experience is Great. I like this workplace very Much due to Professional Environment and Professional Features offered i.e Mobile App Features, Bidding Features, Merit System, Interview System, Court System, Dispute System, Tracking System. all in all Great and Excellent product. I definitely recommend this workplace to all my friends and relatives. Thank You, Upwork.

Pros:

This is Professional Workplace for work beyond the borders, especially for Freelancers. I Like this Workplace very much due to its Amazing Features and Services offered to both Clients and Sellers too. Its Bidding System is professional, Interview Environment is Professional, Jobs Features i.e Fixed Price Job and Hourly Jobs are Great. Its Security System is Amazing.

Cons:

Sellers have to buy connects for bids on the jobs at a reasonable price. It's not fair. It Should be free to bid on any job because Sellers are here to earn money not to invest or not here to purchase something

Good freelancing platform

4.0 4 years ago

Comments: Overall a great place to find clients even though some clients seem to think that freelancers don't need to earn a decent living, but that is not Upwork's fault. Payments are protected and offers a time tracking app.

Pros:

Helps to find clients, good customer service. Messaging platform. Payments are protected. Time tracking application.

Cons:

If you don't earn anything for a month, you need to pay for an account or they make your profile invisible. Even if you have been using their platform as a freelancer for years and earn them a lot of money. Commission of 20%. Had to prove identity after years of good reviews.

Reliable job and time tracking platform

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: Satisfactory, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to work hard and get rewarded for it.

Pros:

Upwork was my first experience working as a freelancer online. It can time a few weeks to get a job, but once you're established in the platform, you'll earn badges and get jobs more easily. If you work hard you'll get rewarded on this platform.

Cons:

Website can be slow sometimes, and time tracking sometimes tracks a bit more time than it should (due to rounding of 10 minute based tracking).

Best Freelancing Platform but still needs improvement

2.0 4 years ago

Comments: Medium type of experience not so good, not so bad either.

Pros:

I like the user interface. It is simple and shows simple options in the menu such as find work, active projects etc. Its chat menu offers options such as video call, or voice call. You can easily send files in messaging. Moreover, it offers detailed analytics and reports for cash inflow. You can receive payments securely as a freelancer and find work related to your skillset. There are many filters and categorization to chose and filter your skill relevant jobs. It is good for buyers or clients but not up to the mark for freelancers.

Cons:

Very hard procedures and very difficult to start a career here because of so much competition. Unlike other platforms Upwork makes the freelancers write big details for jobs. Even if the job is small you need to write comprehensive details regarding your experience and work. It is like filling up a big form for an online resume. I hate it. Secondly, the buyer will rarely risk hiring the freelancer with no ratings or new id. The worst thing is that you need to use connects forbidding and most jobs are for native Americans. If they really need natives then why earning money from freelancer connects too? They can buy their services through ads on social media. Also, they have a huge cut of 20% and most of the terms go in favour of the client but now the freelancer.

Talent at a click of a button

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I love how it connects me to people.

Pros:

I like how I can search for 5 different kind of solution providers at the same time. I take 5 minutes a day per kind of solution provider. I can search for talent directly, and if urgent, get a response within 24 hours. With a well written job description, this could mean work starts in 24 hours.

Cons:

Their website payment freezes with random errors, so I cannot hire candidate. But I just switch to mobile view. If my card is frozen, and I try payment, it says card is rejected, have to go and provided CVC code again to activate it. Bit a of a hassle, a "try again" button would be great.

This is just my experience

3.0 4 years ago

Comments: If you don't want to deal with finding work as a freelancer and you don't mind giving away a large percentage of your revenue, Upwork is great - there seems to be a steady stream of leads. If you don't trust yourself hiring a freelancer as a client, Upwork is great - you probaby won't get ripped off. I don't fall into either of those categories, so I don't use Upwork anymore.

Pros:

It's very easy to find and interact with people, both from a freelancer perspective as well as the client's perspective. They seem to have the security dialed in as well, and it's somewhat difficult to get ripped off by people who aren't trustworthy.

Cons:

In exchange for ease of use and security, they charge obscene fees. As a freelancer, your first gigs are going to easily cost 20%+ of your project revenue.

Great for finding freelancers

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: We were able to hire a few freelance video editors through Upwork. The projects were all completed smoothly.

Pros:

You can find freelancers such as writers, photographers, videographers, video editors in the price range that you want, based on their level of experience. You can also put a project on there and allow freelancers to bid on it and find the one who you find most suitable. Upwork acts as a middle-man and they are paid through the site when the work is complete.

Cons:

Since communication and payment can be all done through Upwork, everyone who is a part of the project gets sent an email notification everytime there are any updates to the account or someone has been paid.

Good app, hired some contractors that did good work

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Mostly ok until their customer service. I still work with my main contractor so I suppose that is all I need from them at this point.

Pros:

My best contractor that I have been working with for 5 years, had been thru upwork.

Cons:

There are a lot of contractors that try to take you off upwork. You have to be careful with how you respond or upwork will kick you out of finding any new contractors. Even though the last one tried to get me to hire him off upwork and I was trying to keep him on upwork, my account was suspended. Their customer service was not considering the message I sent him.

Been using Upwork for years!

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: I like Upwork. I've used it to recruit many, many freelancers for myriad projects.

Pros:

I love the time doctor, the EASY payroll and payment functions, the reporting, and the top tier freelancers. Also, I like the personalized customer support that comes to help with recruitment for featured jobs.

Cons:

It's costly. Freelancers have to pay to apply to jobs, and then we also pay a mark-up when we make payments to freelancers. Also, if you don't pay for a featured job, you barely get applicants.
