Guidewire Struggles

1.0 3 months ago

Comments: I would not recommend this software as it has too many holes out of the box, and extensions are difficult to build and manage.

Pros:

GW offers a consistent theme between all of their X-Centers. It is also fairly straightforward to navigate through their OOTB screens.

Cons:

Their customer service has been almost nonexistent since our first lines started to convert to their cloud platform. There is no formal data dictionary or data model, meaning data is impossible to sort through or map with legacy detail. As a product owner their product is complicated in many of the wrong ways, in unnecessary rating complexity and deployment difficulties. We regularly have GW-hosted environments go down.

Review of Guidewire by an Business Analyst

Comments: My experience with Guidewire in last 3 years is amazing. Its a great product to work upon and it gives really insightful learning on the functional as well as technical front.

Pros:

The Guidewire software is very easy to use. It is very user friendly and covers the functionalities in most efficient way. It doesn't change its user experience drastically as the line of business changes so its easy to work with.

Cons:

The complexities of insurance business makes any product which it has in the industry makes it complex. Guidewire is a complex product overall. It requires a basic training of the functionalities of the product to work with.

Insurance carriers … take a pass on this system … please!

1.0 2 years ago

Comments: Insurance companies … if you want to cripple your sales force, this is the system for you. Have the president of your company sit at a user interface … ask him/her to start a quote. Don’t give them direction, see how long it will take to find it. Then do it with taking a payment. I have a great deal of experience, and I’m very tech savvy. Please reconsider your options.

Pros:

Nothing … there is absolutely nothing good about this system. I don’t understand why so many companies are switching to you.

Cons:

Everything. It’s obvious that this company used 0 end user input. It’s the opposite of intuitive.

The must have for Insurance industry

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: I work in a team that implement the solution for a big insurance company. At the first, it is fast to understand how to customize simple things and having new features on no time in production. The problem comes with bugs, the IDE provide a really bad experience for debugging making really hard to solve things.

Pros:

It comes with everything you need for your insurance company. It has the products, business logic, visuals, modularization, quality, safety, covers all fronts of an insurance business. It is stable, reliable, friendly and all ready to use from the starting point. It provides a perfect customer-focused solution without any customization and in a state of the art system.

Cons:

As with any black box solution, it is sometimes very difficult for developers to customize it, especially complex rules and design. The views are very difficult to change, even changing the color of a button is a long way, since the html and the css are not easily accessible. It's really hard to debug, IDE is too slow for that and half of the time it can't follow the runtime and can't see any variable value. You need almost a gaming computer to run the server locally, the requirements are not reasonable

Worst system -Run fast away

1.0 7 years ago

Pros:

In the quoting function the prior insurance reports are very helpful for underwriting purposes. The digital signature function is also a positive when issuing new business.

Cons:

The system is very slow. When quoting coverage and making any changes to coverage options the system must completely refresh, this is very unproductive as just revising a quote can take well over an hour and this process should be a matter of a few minutes. This system cannot differentiate between a primary driver and an occasional driver, result is higher premiums to the consumer. Inconsistency when quoting, pricing changes nearly every time you review a quote. When quoting, this system doubled the time it takes to do a simple quote. This system is not efficient for the front end user. They need an agents forum, this system misses the mark completely and hinders productivity.

Difficult.

3.0 4 years ago

Comments: It works, but I’d rather have an easier to understand platform.

Pros:

It’s nice to have a way to follow a customer through the process. Quitting, binding, underwriting, billing. It’s all done in one platform.

Cons:

It’s so hard to find what you need. You think it’s in one place, but it’s really in another. And then when you think you’ve figured it out, you are lost all over again.

Effective, Exhaustive & Easy to Use

4.0 3 years ago

Pros:

Guidewire offers end to end features in terms of process(es) and capabilities 1 could think of in Insurance Value Chain. The features are apt for US market and can adapt to other geographies with customization. The documentation & Courses available are self-sufficient for someone to pick up the software with minimal effort & time. The long list of partners & vendors readily integrated with their system enhancing the features further.

Cons:

Limited availability of open source information on Guidewire, not much can be found over web. One has to channel themselves through any of their partner to get details.

Most frustrating software

1.0 2 years ago

Comments: Horrible. Whatever money the insurance companies are savings by implementing this software rather than going another route is carried on the backs of the agencies and service centers.

Pros:

Nothing. have respect for their sales team that can sell this garbage to so many carriers.

Cons:

The least intuitive software I’ve ever used. I’ve been using this software for years and while I thought it would get better it seems to be getting even less user friendly. If you enjoy clicking links and counting to 20 before the page loads then it’s great. It’s like 90’s dial up.

Guidewire Installation a bona fide nightmare; for users, clients and business overall

1.0 4 years ago

Comments: One of three states to go live with Guidewire. Nothing worked; nothing. Clients suffered, I spent dozens of hours each week on the phone and online with support trying to get it to work. My worst installation experience ever and I've 'lived' through lots of them over the years.

Pros:

Nothing. As a former IT professional I've never seen anything so bad; so many challenges, problems, total lack of communications.

Cons:

I don't know what company was contracted to do the installation but they're also to blame. Case study of what can go wrong.
