About Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage
Always hot, S3 compatible object storage built to host content, build & run applications, manage media, back up, archive & protect data
I also utilized customer service and they were so helpful.
The one time I needed the software to actually work for a backup it failed. It was not able to retain my existing backup when I had to reinstall Windows 10 on my desktop.

I have used Backblaze for over two years and I am VERY happy with it.
Comments: I am just plain happy. My intention is to renew again and again my yearly subscription with them. The reason I started using this software is that The New York Times uses it as well. If they use it, the software must be fantastic!
Pros:
Ease of use. Security. Peace of mind. Everything works in the background. I don't even need to update the software because it does it automatically.
Cons:
I cannot think of anything. They send a regular newsletter, and many of the articles they send are too tricky for me to understand. Maybe if they wrote some of those articles in a more user-friendly language for people like me who are ignorant about IT.
Alternatives Considered:
Relaible Cloud Storage at a fraction of a cost ..
Comments: I am very much satisfy with the B2 and their support (support team is very prompt as well as knowledgeable) .
Pros:
Low cost (Because of their fair uses policy as well as no minimum storage commitment) . Easily configurable with most of the industry leading backup software. Newly added S3 support. Object locking makes it impossible to delete the backup before the retention period.
Cons:
No IAM based bucket distribution like AWS.
Backblaze let me down
Comments: Disappointing.
Pros:
Used them successfully for many years. Then suddenly, they stopped backing up my external HD on my mac for an undetermined amount of time. After discovering this potentially catastrophic situation, I contacted customer support which finally told me that BB couldn't backup a mac external HD with Time Machine. What? But it did in previous years? why wasn't I alerted my backup was essentially backing up ONLY my desktop, which has almost no files? Wasted money. Worse, it could have cost me my business.
Cons:
Unreliable and their customer service seemed clueless.

Backblaze Back Up for Nonprofit
Comments: The biggest problem Backblaze solved was that when we had previously used another company for backing up files (which was a more cloud based system) we lost files when a staff member deleted files thinking our main account was linked to them. When in fact the files were lost because they were the original author. This was a huge loss of time having to rewrite manuals and operating documents. Now when we have a staff member leave we have them condense their files and transfer it to my computer as the Operations Director and I can make sure they are backed up and as needed given to new staff when the time comes. The other benefit is everything runs in the background automatically. Gone are the days when we would plug in a harddrive for back up and were lucky to remember to do it once a month.
Pros:
First of all you just can't beat their price for this type of automatic back up system. Most platforms I had researched either had size limits or cost much more. For a small non-profit we were so happy (and able to sleep better at night) knowing if our computer crashed we would be safe and able to keep going.
Cons:
We have had a slight issue w/ backing up our harddrive because we travel to different venues and use that same harddrive for our video footage. We just have to set really good reminders so we don't forget to plug it back in.
Rock Solid Backup
Pros:
I love that I can setup Backblaze, run an initial backup, and and trust that Backblaze will take care of the rest. I never have to worry about Backblaze protecting my data, and if there ever is a problem, Backblaze will alert me ASAP.
Cons:
My one complaint about the software is the UI of the Mac desktop client; it looks dated and isn't intuitively organized, and doesn't seem to fit with the other polished parts of the Backblaze platform.
Great, cost-effective option for remote backup
Comments: I've been using BackBlaze for over 2 years and haven't had any issues with the software, it does a great job notifying me when an employee's machine hasn't been backed up and does a good job of well, backing things up.
Pros:
Business licensing allowed me to purchase all the licenses my team needed. The simple invite method works great. This is one of those things you should have but hope you never need
Cons:
Migrating computers really isn't a thing with Backblaze. It'd be nice to have a migrate options available.

Best value
Comments: From my experience, Backblaze delivers what they promise without any hassles. So, that makes me happy.
Pros:
I found Backblaze had by far the best pricing structure for data backup. I use their bucket system for my customers and haven't had any problems.
Cons:
I think they still need some additional tools for downloading and interacting with the data but I believe they are always working to make the product better.
Alternatives Considered:
Just go with Backblaze
Comments: I love Backblaze. They offer exceptional products for way below the competitions pricing.
Pros:
I use their B2 backup on my NAS. I needed something that was affordable but also reliable. B2 checked those boxes for my business
Cons:
I don’t have any cons for this product.
Best Backup on the Market for Business
Comments: For our small business, the software was a huge success and came in handy when one of our back drives went bad. Setup on our server and workstations was seamless and easy to manage from any device.
Pros:
The best part of this software is how easy it is to configure and setup. A few simple clicks, a private key for encryption, and it runs quietly in the background when connected to the internet uploading data as specified in your options. Cost for the amount of storage is lower than most providers without having to rely on cold storage options.
Cons:
Backblaze relies on the computer state for backups, and doesn't give a huge number of options for data recovery. If you lose a file, you need to make sure to restore it before the next backup kicks in and removes the file for good. Software does not run on network drives or NAS very easily. NAS sometimes has software to integrate, but usually not a dual direction backup. Upload was pretty slow. We are on 400/400 fiber and the 600GB upload took almost 3 days.
Backblaze Response

Hey Christopher- Thanks for leaving the review! Just a quick note- Our Computer Backup software is one not intended to run on network drives or NAS devices, we have B2 Cloud Storage for those use cases. Why? Our Computer Backup service is one of the few remaining unlimited services around. By being truly unlimited, we had to draw some lines around what backing up a `computer¿ means (within the context of unlimited). So that might explain some of their haplenges you had backing up your NAS. But checkout B2! It¿s $0.05 /GB/month (1/4 of the price of S3). And is integrated into most NAS devices already. You can find more information at https://www.backblaze.com/b2/solutions/backup-and-archive.html Cheers! Ahin from Backblaze
My review of Backblaze
Comments: Experience has been smooth and works as described. Company has surpassed expectations. Highly recommend.
Pros:
Started with a free trial and was instantly converted into a paying customer when I realized how easy it is to use and how fairly priced it is. Pros- Cost - $130 for a 2 year plan Unlimited storage - peace of mind storage will never run out Easy to use software - Installed one piece of software and within 3-4 clicks, it started backing up and worked in the background while I continued to use my system Backup internals - it continuously backs up every couple of minutes/hours once it spots changes Speed of backup - large backups finish quickly Lots of security options - 2FA authentication, private key encryption - for that extra level of security
Cons:
It does not allow the backing up of applications and system files. In other words, you cannot make a bootable image of your system. If this was available, Backblaze would be perfect.
Backblaze has saved me three times in the past!
Comments: My experience with Backblaze has been great! They allow you to immediately begin downloading files you need from anywhere! If the number of files that you need to download is so large that time is a factor, they will send you your files via an external hard-drive. Computers crash... I can't ever imagine being without this service. There is nothing more important than the peace of mind it brings!
Pros:
The security I feel in knowing that my files and photos are continuosly being backed up to the cloud is priceless! It only takes a hard-drive glitch once to truly appreciate this service. I've used their recovery system three times in the past and it's made the service something I will never be without! If there are only a few files you need, you can download them. If you need your entire hard drive to be recovered, they will send your files to you on a hard drive and not even charge you for the actual hard drive if you return it to them! This is an awesome service. They also send reports to assure you that files are backed up!
Cons:
This product works silently in the background 24/7! Once you set the parameters you want, you can just feel the security that no matter what happens, your files are safe.
Reliable Backups that Always Run!
Comments: This solved the problem, where my business would not be impacted by lost data, when a disaster happens. In my case, hard drives went down a few times. I could still access them online, and later, when adding a new drive, it was very easy to restore. Bottom line? Backblaze is reliable! It's so easy to use and has saved me from losing a lot of important data. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an online backup solution.
Pros:
The best features of Backblaze are its affordability, ease of use, and... #1 is Reliability. It has saved me from losing important data on several occasions. There's a nice feature to ensure backups are live and ongoing always. Another good feature is the ability to login online and access files (if needed).
Cons:
First, it can be a bit slow to upload large files. Second, the free version only allows for one computer to be backed up. Virtual (storage could) drives are not supported. The very first backup you create can take days - But to be fair... This is a result of how much data you are including in the first backup, and how fast your internet connection is.
Great Value, but lacks robust recovery software.
Pros:
The price is unbeatable at this point for unlimited storage. Versioning is fairly robust. Speed is good.
Cons:
Many folks would see this as a Pro, but I'd prefer to specify directories to backup rather than files types or the "back up everything" approach here. All recovery must be done through the web interface by browsing backed up data and selecting files to be placed into zip containers of limited size. This is slow and clunky. When I had a major failure, I needed to back up several TB of data. I had to wait a week for delivery of a 2TB volume, and still had to select 10-20 zip packages in addition, keeping track of what had been restore and what had not. Obviously, this is a value service, but a non-web interface that allows for direct recovery over a fast connection would be superior for me.

Hey Marshall- Thanks for being a customer. As another option for fast downloads, checkout our dedicated downloader - circumvents much of slowness introduced by browsers. If you need an emergency backup, Backblaze is perfect
Comments: I believe that everyone who works heavily on files should protect their data from unexpected accidents. Backblaze is a no-brainer for creative specialists and for entrepreneurs.
Pros:
It's the easiest way for regular customers to protect their data from loss. It's not the same thing as cloud storage, and it's not meant to be the same. But if you want to be always protected, Backblaze is a great and not-so-expensive solution. I used it for about 2 years when I used my private PC for work. Now I don't need it as much, but still consider getting back.
Cons:
It would be great if that had some kind of cloud storage or at least integration with third-party cloud services.
Powerful cloud storage Backblaze B2
Comments: Using Backblaze B2 for desktop, VM, database and NAS backups. Clients include Synology NAS and MSP360 (SQL Server, Hyper-V and desktop).
Pros:
It's very inexpensive compared to other cloud-based storage platforms. AWS-compatible API. Easy to manage storage buckets.
Cons:
Limited geographical locations means it can be slow depending on where your servers are, when compared to local Azure instances for example.
Cloud backup plans are nothing new but Backblaze does it best
Comments: Backblaze provides a simple setup and peace of mind when dealing with valuable data.
Pros:
Pricing is great for Backblaze and setup is beyond simple. The persistent backups mean no user is ever in fear of losing valuable data. We've implemented Backblaze for all our employees machines. An underrated feature that I hope I never have to use is they'll send you a physical copy of your backup if you ever find yourself in a severe emergency backup situation!
Cons:
I really, really can't think of any negatives to say about Backblaze. While I think the price is fair I guess it could be bundled a little better for larger organizations who need a lot of machines backed up.
Best backup out there
Comments: It's been fantastic - I had a drive fail and had NO issues getting it back! Perfect software for what's needed.
Pros:
If you need backup and are not using this software - I would highly recommend this for all - server and personal!
Cons:
At first it takes quite a long time - but after the initial time - it sails!
Blazing Fast Business Backup
Comments: Incredibly fast backups and restorations. Integration with popular backup software.
Pros:
The speed is incredible and pricing per GB for BackBlaze B2 is lower than Amazon Glacier and Microsoft Azure. Plus, they publish an annual report on hard drive failure rates that is extremely valuable.
Cons:
A few years ago, my only gripe was the amount of industry integrations. Since then, however, they've added many, many new ones that resolve my concerns.
Install and forget until you need it
Comments: Compared to other programs that need to be administered, checking ans ensuring the backups are really done and up to date, Backblaze works in the background with no limits in storage and store everything in your computer that has to be stored and offers to send you your information, should you need it in a SSD
Pros:
Smooth install, initial backup and operation. Really does the work wkithout the hassle, self administered, it works for you keeping your files stored and safe
Cons:
Everything is fine with this product, maybe a bundle pricing could help to have more computers in the network
The best no-fuss backup solution around.
Pros:
Backblaze has one of the easiest on-boarding process of any backup software I've used. It's seriously software that most end users would be able to easily configure on their own computer. Such an intuitive interface that still has powerful features for those looking to tweak things.
Cons:
I really don't have anything negative to say about Backblaze. Their service and emergency recovery support are second to none, and the no-fuss pricing per computer with no storage caps makes price forecasting a breeze.
Great backup!
Comments: It has been great. I have comfort knowing all my documents are backed up and my years worth of projects will not be lost!
Pros:
Backblaze has been a lifesaver! I downloaded the software and it backs up my documents. My computer died earlier this year and I panicked. I was so worried that I lost everything, and I had never logged in to see my backed up information. I bought a new laptop and was able to successfully get all of my backed up documents, picture, etc from Backblaze. It was super comforting to know that my information was all there. years of work! I also utilized customer service and they were so helpful!
Cons:
None! I have had nothing but a good experience with this software. It is well worth the cost!!! Get it today
Alternatives Considered:
Peace of mind for your bucks
Pros:
Backblaze is a very minimal tool. It doesn't sport any bells and whistles, it never stays in your way. It just stay silent for much of the time and just... works. Your entire disk is safely and securely backed up on their servers and you can access your files and restore your backups in case of dramatic events.
Cons:
Honestly the web interface is a little bit strange and oddly organized, but it's a very minor complaint because you rarely use it (if at all).
Reliable continuous offsite backup
Pros:
I like that Backblaze constantly runs in the background backing up everything that's on my Mac. Some of my co-workers can't be bothered with manually plugging in a hard drive to run a backup, so this works perfectly for them. Since I also have a local backup, I don't have a need to download my entire backup as yet. However it came in handy on a number of occasions when I needed to access a file on my Mac when I'm out.
Cons:
I wish they could offer unlimited versioning of files so that I can rollback to an earlier version when something goes wrong. As of now, I'd need to combine that with other solutions like Time Machine or Dropbox Extended Version History.
Affordable and reliable backup solution
Pros:
The ability for us to "set it and forget it." We know Backblaze is running and do not need to check on servers, external HDD's etc.
Cons:
Retrieving files from the cloud requires time but this is the case with any cloud backup solution.
Backblaze - super affordable, stable backups
Comments: From day 1 we have been able to simply configure and always restore our data. That along with the price makes this the perfect solution to backup millions of files across 10TB of data.
Pros:
The price and the simplicity of configuring it to backup our Synology rackstation. It's secure and we have always been able to restore files when needed. We have never experienced an issue with Backblaze. Would highly recommend to everyone.
Cons:
The web interface could use an overhaul. It is simple enough but I feel like with a little time and effort they could turn it into something better. Note, this is a very minor con.
