At every corner this app succeeds!

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: After using it to understand where my time was going throughout my day I was able to better build my calendar for the new year. This let me begin moving forward in freelance contracting while also allowing my clients to better understand where their money is going.

Pros:

At every corner this app succeeds. With a fair pricing model and a supportive and quick to respond developer it has set the standard for the other apps I use. Design wise Timing is extremely clean, while giving you a fantastic amount of information to look at and use while not being excessive. My time with Timing has been nothing but a joy to use and has paid for itself ten fold.

Cons:

I wish there was an API for adding functionality from other apps, or your own, I feel it would really improve how Timing works in the long run. Otherwise, no real complaints.

Invisible Timetracking

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: Overall I love how invisible Timing is. It doesn't require that I start or stop it, or even give it a task name. I can take a good look at my efficiency and how much time I'm devoting to each project.

Pros:

The best part of this software is that it runs in the background, using your active window to determine the activity you're working on. It is very granular and gives a very in-depth look into how your time is _actually_ spent. From there, they make it easy to "group" time blocks into tasks, which is convenient when the window path isn't enough to identify the project/activity you're working on.

Cons:

I do find it takes a good amount of time to set up the automation rules necessary to get the most value out of the product. I also must dedicate 20-30 min a week to review my time, group into tasks, and ensure things are accurate.

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: 1) Drawing and Timing both going hand in hand gets us an advantage over all the others

Pros:

1) With the help of Timing I was able to complete and build various relationship diagrams and also constraints to all relationships

Cons:

1) With this software we can do stuff like easy integrations to CRM's but the pricing is still a bit high

Timing has made time tracking so much less painful

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: I find I am able to bill more accurately and am not guessing on how I spent my time if I forgot to start a clock. I love that it is my safety blanket, and it keeps me focused when I look at how I spend time.

Pros:

I do a daily review of how I spent my time not only for billing purposes but also to see how I can continue to focus on productivity. I love the ability to create custom rules based on file names/patterns, paths, urls, and more so you don't even have to think about starting and stopping a clock. And it works/syncs on both of my computers so it doesn't matter if I am on my iMac or MBP. It really is a modern way to track time!

Cons:

Every time I have a wish list item I send it in to the team and everything that was possible they've basically included in a release.

Best way to track your Context Switching.

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: The main problem that Timing solves for me is the fact that it makes my Context Switching easier to record with less worries about who I book which portion of my day to.

Pros:

I like the fact that I am able to cary on with my day as normal and then at the end of the Day or even the end of the Week, go back and review all my actions. This way I can context switch between customers and helping colleagues without loosing track of where I spent my time. This makes filling my time sheets after a busy week so much easier. I am recommending this app to anyone that have multiple projects and activities during the same day or week.

Cons:

I have not found anything I dislike about this app yet, and have been using it for more than 8 months now.

Tracking Time Cannot Be Easier

5.0 6 years ago

Pros:

It automatically tracks your time without manual intervention. You don't have to tell it when you're using a program or when to stop. You can associate a program/folder/keywords with a project and it will automatically assign the time to the project. If you need to, you can also assign a period of time as a task to a project overriding any individual program's assignment. It also includes sync between multiple computers now.

Cons:

It takes a while to onboard with setting up projects and customizing the automatic assignments. Then, much like any workflow/process, you need to adjust your personal habits to get the benefit of having Timing track your application usage.

Must have Time Keeping application for personal development and client billing

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Accurately records time either pro-actively or reactively with full details on application context. Timing is a must-have application for anyone who needs to reflect or record time accurately and makes it a breeze to not miss a beat.

Pros:

Accurate time as you go Detailed per application activity tracking Great overview of projects and time from live reporting and exports Good automation features such as keywords to use to auto allocation activities to projects Excellent multi-machine synching of activities for a unified activity tracking

Cons:

Slice and dice views are limited. Would have been nice to click on any keyword to see which entries it affects etc. Integration in Calendar is limited and needs an export script

Great software for time tracking

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Writing daily report or reports per projects goes from couple of hours to couple of seconds.

Pros:

Automatic tracking of software usage that you can later easily put in report shape. Perfect tool for freelancers that will make day work easier. It is enough that once you create rule for specific app, file or folder, then application will automatically record hours for project or task. Nice thing is that you can create rules for un-productive things (example: social networks) so you can see how much daily minutes (maybe hours :)) you waste in time of work.

Cons:

Software have some missing features, but in support conversation, plenty of them will be implemented in future versions.

Amazing

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: This software saves me so much time and hassle. I'm a freelancer and I use this app everyday. The developer is actively working to continually improve it and it shows. I love mac, and this app is 100% Mac. Very simple and intuitive while providing complex options for time organization.

Pros:

This software is simple and it has worked well for years now without problems.

Cons:

If anything, I'd say the price is a little high. But this app has little to no flaws that I can see after using it for the last few years.

Perfect Tool for Tracking Time Usage Automatically on Computers

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: I am using Timing to help my employees track and make their time usage more efficient.

Pros:

Timing automates the time tracking process is an easy to use way. It's easy to just track tasks and record what I spend my time on with this tool. As a result, I've saved a lot more time using this compared to other types of time tracking tools.

Cons:

The calendar integration by Timing is kind of weak and hard to use. It would be awesome to compare how much time I planned on a task vs the actual amount of time I spent on a task.

Timing takes time to setup but afterwards helps you understand your time perfectly!

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: I used to think I was a super busy guy who did not have time for all the troubles of life. But, after tracking my time on this software for the past month+, I have come to realize that I spend more of my time in passive enjoyment like browsing the web or watching youtube instead of actively enjoying activities like reading a book or playing sports. This realization has helped me understand why I felt so busy and unhappy: because I was spending all my "free time" on things that did not make me happy, so I kept spending more and more time to relax without any progress, which lead to me not putting enough time into my work. Now I try to spend most of my time either enjoying high-quality, fun activities or doing focused work, nothing in between.

Pros:

- Very reliable - Doesn't crash, ever - Always tracking time - Very colorful UI with good visualization mechanisms - Customizable - Detail-oriented - Trial is so long you will 100% by the end whether you like it or not

Cons:

- Pricing maybe a bit too high, but the time invested into this and the fact that it's not subscription based like a lot of other premium software justifies it. - Takes some up front time to setup the different projects and what key words/tasks automatically associate with what projects. After that, it's smooth sailing. - Very, very MINOR: A lot of manual reassignment of activities need to be done from project to project if you use one piece of software or website for many projects. This is just a limitation of the program being simple enough for users and having a very straightforward "if it contains these words put it into this project." The problem arises when one word fits into multiple projects, but in certain situations the task maps to the wrong project. This is a con, but is something that should be expected since I can't think of any software in the world that can do something like that. Fixing this problem might lie in some Machine Learning applications :) So this trade off arises in order to increase the ease of use for users in my opinion!

Tracks every minute spent using every app and presents this information beautifully.

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Speedy billing for clients and accurate time tracking

Pros:

Timing allows you to develop increasingly complex workflows as you gain familiarity with the software. Initially, it was enough to simply track the use of certain applications and manually drag the items into individual projects. As I my familiarity increased, I learnt the power of rules and file/folder preferences which allow multiple workstreams to be tracked and the tasks allocated to the individual projects. I can track the workstreams of the multiple teams that I work with and then invoice time for each team individually. Timing comes with a range of export options built into the app that allows the data to be further processed or submitted. I subscribe to Timing through Settapp but if that was to disappear I would buy the app the very next day. Such is the value that it has in my workflow. Keyboard shortcuts make this app multitasking dream.

Cons:

I would like Timing more if when I move between review and report pages in the app, any projects that were currently selected remained selected.

Tracks time spent, applications used and more

5.0 2 years ago

Pros:

I love that this software tracks all I do, and when, while using any applications on my computer. I do not always remember to start the timer when I am working between clients, but I can go back and see what I was doing and on what application, along with for how long, afterwards. I use it for multiple clients to track my time, and the time clock is great, too, bc you can add in what you are doing. I also like that you can set shortcuts for starting and stopping the clock and edit any entry if needed, and even add an entry after the fact.

Cons:

I do not like that sometimes I will see "unknown activity" as a description for what I was doing, when all applications I use have titles of either documents, emails, files, etc. However, the benefits FAR outweigh that little annoyance.

Phenomenal Resource for Productivity

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Because of I'm timing, I'm able to first see just how productive I am. I didn't think I was that productive during the day, but I'm realizing I am more productive than I thought. I'm also noticing I'm staying on track more than I was before. I won't go to social media to goof off because I know it's "watching." I also love that it keeps track of everything for me because I've used other programs before where I had to manually go in and start/stop and edit things and honestly, I'd tell a little white to the program (and myself) that I was "productive" the entire time. That's not helping me. This program doesn't really allow for it -- I mean, I know I can, but I don't because of the automaticity. I love this program and I don't even know all of the FULL benefits yet (I just upgraded to expert-- SO EXCITED!). Thank you so much for creating this program!

Pros:

There are so many things I love about this software that I don't even know where to start. I love how it helps me stay on track with what I'm doing during the day, increases my productivity, and see what areas I need to focus on more. It's incredibly easy to use and has so many various ways to analyze your data. I also love that it runs automatically for me instead of requiring me to start it myself. In other programs, I'd forget.

Cons:

There really are no cons. The only thing I can think of is at first it seems overwhelming, but Timing took care of that by providing tutorials that were short and helpful. The less than one minute things are sometimes annoying because I'm not sure where to sort them.

Efficient and understandable time tracking app

5.0 7 years ago

Pros:

The passiveness of the app allows me to not have to think about it. I just let it sit in the background and it will automatically categorize my computer usage via pre-defined rules. The customizability is also adequate, as you can manually re-categorize if there are exceptions to rules or uncategorized usage. Tagging usage by keywords/URL/filepaths makes it very easy to categorize usage in bulk.

Cons:

I'm not used to the notion of "tasks" in the software, since it relies on manual entry. Sometimes the start/end time of the task is inaccurate maybe it would be good to have a threshold of detection for a task interval. Also, when adding a new rule, it would be useful if that rule can be applied to previous usage rather than manually adding everything from the past.

Passive time tracking for those who bill by time

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Knowing where I've spent my time on while on my Mac.

Pros:

Timing tracks everything I'm doing on my Mac, passively. When I work on things that bill by time, I don't need to remember to start any timer or stop any timer. I could always go back to Timing to extract out the exact time that I've spent on the work based on the time I spend on the software. I think it's easier for me, and better for my clients.

Cons:

The interface has seen an improvement from version 1. I'm not such a big fan of the default colors used for my projects and tasks though, but it's not a big deal for me.

My most frequently used app apart from my IDE. It is stable, consumes low resources and feature rich

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Personal improvement and helps me in managing my billing invoices

Pros:

Very well made: - The app looks very nice and looks deserving of the immense effort that probably might have gone into designing the UI - Very cool reports that give you just the right level of detail to determine where your time is being spent - Lot of attention to detail. For e.g., I love the menu bar icon that shows my current efficiency rate Feature rich: - It already knows about a bunch of things and knows how to classify them. For e.g., it is familiar with domains related to development - I can train it the way I want to. For e.g., I can tell the app to log all hours I spend in the Ulysses app into my development projects - Quite a few number of reports that allows me to slice and dice the data as I want to. This makes it very easy for me to bill my clients very accurately. In fact, I have just started to attach a screenshot of the report (filtered on the client) in my invoice to some clients. They appreciate the transparency. - I also use it to monitor my personal work. For e.g., Netflix appears in bright red in my 'Time Wasters' project

A great simple app that works in the background monitoring files & applications being used. Love it!

5.0 7 years ago

Pros:

That it takes little set up and works in the background. This is great for figuring work flows and lets me know exactly how much time I've been spending on projects. I manage to track not just work but exercise and other things through my day.

Cons:

Not much to not like - remembering the hot keys is about the only hassle. Took me a while to figure out that I could reconfigure my work day from default. Have never required customer support so can't comment there.

Timing is an Essential tool for Mac Freelancers

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: very effective in tracking my time, so i can bill, even if i forget to note my start & end times. with timing i can reconstruct what i was doing.

Pros:

There are many time trackers, but almost all focus on reporting, and rely on users working a stopwatch to capture time info. The real problem is capturing time info and allocating to projects, not reporting, and Timing is one of only a few tools that track what you do automatically.

Cons:

Some of the rollover pop up menus drive me crazy. Also they need to do an iOS app so you can track time at client sites as automatically as you track Mac app / document usage.

Perfect for freelancers or productivity nerds

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: I needed a way to track my time but was constantly falling off the wagon having to remember to do it manually. With Timing, I can see exactly how my time was spent and it’s just a matter of drag-and-drop to make sure everything is recorded the way it needs to be. I can also see at a glance where my time is going.

Pros:

Timing allows me a low-friction way to keep track of how I spend my time. It’s just as handy for managing my time-wasting habits as it is for tracking my time spent on various projects.

Cons:

No real cons to this little gem. The developer has done a great job of responding to user feedback and implementing suggestions. Gets better with each version.

Timing app is the Ultimate time/productivity tracker

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Time tracking, productivity, pomodoro

Pros:

I have been using Timing for more than 6 months now and I have to say that it gives a great sense of satisfaction to be able to organize your day into distinctive time slots which can be allotted to various tasks. Timing app allows for this to be done seamlessly. I like the visualization it provides and that gives a good insight into where your time went.

Cons:

The interface could be simpler and more modern. Upon looking at it for the first time, some folks can be overwhelmed as it may seem like too many things going on.

The best time tracking software for Mac

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: I became more productive and got a better sense of time while working on my tasks. So intuitively I avoid to waste my time on distracting apps and websites. Now I have thorough reports about apps usage. What's properly measured can be improved.

Pros:

- Nice and consistent UI - Smart grouping of activities by their type - Useful statistics - Easy to use and powerful reporting - Ability to set up pomodoro-like workflow - Ability to adjust time tracks, which can be useful if one forgot to switch to a proper task in time, or forgot to top task tracking. - The data is stored locally and sensitive information about your apps used, web pages visited and chats opened does not leak.

Cons:

- Way too many default smart projects and that is a bit confusing for beginners - Sometimes I forget to resume activity tracking while a quick task is started, so the information about apps usage gets lost. Probably, some notification would help here.

Great tool for my little office

5.0 6 years ago

Pros:

For me the automatic recording of my doings is perfect. In other systems I often forget to start the time tracking. So this, working backwards, is perfect!

Cons:

I missed the option of invoicing. It is a bit complicated to export and arrange that. But it seems there is an option for that now.
