Great DB alternative from Amazon
Comments: The cloud has removed the need for a physical server and physical person to be present over there full time.
The best thing about it is that it is NoSQL based. Everything is migrating to cloud these days and migrating our DB to cloud, makes sense too. The ease of access and scalability are very impressive features of this tool.
You can get started in no time and, it's beginner friendly as well.
Cons: You have to have a good idea about how much your project is going to expand and based on that only you should go with this model because it's not a cheap model if you are going to grow on a vast scale.

Cheap NoSQL solution for small projects
Comments: Cheap and simple NoSQL database for my personal projects.
Pros: It's cheap and it's really easy to use, fully managed NoSQL solution. If you'r starting new project or if your project will not require extream scalability and huge datasets Amazon SimpleDB could be great alternative to DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases. It's developer friendly with great documentation and REST API.
Cons: Pricing model is little bizarre and even with amazon cost calculator hard to predict. 25 writes per second could be a no-go for some projects.

Amazon did it again !
Comments: Amazon SimpleDB offers me 100% of what I'm looking for in a database. Couldn't recommend it enough.
Pros: Everything. I mean, it offers everything I look for in a database. It is secure, flexible, always accessible (and more importantly, stable), kind of easy to use (for those who know how to work with a database), and really not that expensive. It is filled with functionalities, you can track, count, make analysis, or stock anything you want. The customer service is also really good, after all, Amazon has always been known for his world class customer service.
Cons: Nothing at all. It would be really hard to learn for neophytes, but it's easy to those who know how to use this kind of software.

The default choice if using AWS Already
Comments: It will take you quite a while to get to grips with it due to a disapointing lack of tutorials or reference materials available.
Pros: Given that it is a part of AWS it's unsurprising but still nice, just how well integrated it is to the rest of AWS.

This was used to try to help store data and organize my businesses data.
Comments: There are definite pros and cons to this software. If you just try the free version, you will quickly find out if it is for your business.
Pros: I liked the tiered system for GB data use. They also have a free tier which allows you to begin to try out the program and test out if it is right for your business.
Cons: I did not like the poor customer support, it seemed very hard to get into contact with a non-automated person to help with the situations such as software glitches.

Comments: I used SimpleDB in a couple of ways and it's great till you need to do a bit more, then it requires a lot of work, but this is common to many NoSQL products.
Pros: AWS did a great job adding this time of NoSQL/key-value store to their offering because it's perfect for some specific use cases, and even cheap and scalable as it should be.
Cons: Don't be fooled because a key/value store should be used with specific knowledge, so it should be advertised clearly and chosen carefully.

Isn't as simple as the name implies but it is very useful
Comments: Typical Amazon service, strong and reliable that will cost a bit but with the associated benefits of no hardware refresh and no system maintenance.
Pros: Good NoSQL DB with high availability. Pretty powerful in it's features and functionality
Cons: Authentication and connection isn't as simple as one would think. Cost can get up there pretty quickly though when that happens it usually means your business is doing better.

The distributed database you need to use if you use AWS
Pros: Pretty much the reason why you use this is because it is a part of Amazon Web Services. It is used along side Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and Amazon S3. There is a free tier available to try it out or use for small loads. Transfers are also free within the AWS eco system.
Cons: Not really a con, more like a limitation - it provides eventual consistency. It makes it harder to write programs against. But that is what you typically see with large scale distributed databases. You sacrifice consistency for availability. Only you would know if this would work for you.

Cons: Their support team takes a while to respond to inquiries which means initial setup kinda takes a bit if you don't know what you're doing.

Received email that was "Amazon", when we open it ask that we take a survey.
Comments: Some free services have applied (shipping, etc.) Also the benefit of buyer beware, just because friends and family always think they are getting the best deal but there are times when things cost more.
Pros: Amazon has great features for shopping and a large selection to choose from! Have made quite a few purchases since I started using (and paying for Prime).
Cons: The software is like most others, our email is given out to companies that contract through Amazon.

Amazon's RDS is a cloud service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational db
Gives you access to the capabilities of a familiar MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL database engine.
Scripts, applications, and tools you already use with your existing databases can be used with Amazon RDS.
Automatically patches the AWS database software and backs up your data.
Cons: Deploying a highly available (HA), scalable web application can be complex and expensive. RDB can provide you with a relatively straightforward and inexpensive solution. To provide high availability, you simply select Multi-AZ (Multiple Availability Zones) for your AWS database during configuration
