About Microsoft OneNote
Microsoft OneNote is a fully functional digital note taking application which can be used to organize, share and collaborate on ideas.
Like the rest of Microsoft Office, OneNote has a ton of features and integration with existing Microsoft software, making going between programs like excel and word nearly seamless.
Once you build that “universe,” it can become very complicated to navigate. Sometimes I forget how I got to the place I originally set up and it can be frustrating.

Pros:
OneNote is my digital sanctuary for organizing thoughts, ideas, and information. Its flexible canvas allows me to seamlessly capture notes, clippings, images, and even audio recordings in a way that feels natural and intuitive. The ability to create multiple notebooks and sections keeps everything neatly organized, while the powerful search function ensures that I can always find what I need. Whether I'm brainstorming for a project, taking lecture notes, or simply jotting down a quick reminder, OneNote is my go-to tool. The ability to collaborate with others in real-time is a game-changer, making it an essential tool for both personal and professional use. OneNote Review
Pros:
Able to save documents written in Microsoft word. Has great storage for saving documents
Cons:
Unable to connect to a printer. When it comes down to getting documents it has a hard time releasing them.
Alternatives Considered:
Excellent app to store notes
Comments: Is a great tool to store all your notes, can manage them in sections to have all organized
Pros:
Can store all the notes there and can view edit or create on smartphone with the app
Cons:
At the moment everithing is working good, i like it.
Reliable note taking and task management app
Pros:
As a note taking app I find OneNote more useful and with more features than other apps. I used to use Evernote, but there were to many restrictions and not too many options for notes categorization. With OneNote one has not only the Notebook entity, but also the sections within each Notebook and the pages within each section. This tree structure on 3 levels allows for a quite flexible approach when it comes to notes categorization. Another critical feature is the Search function: allowing to search across all notebooks and pages. As for task management, I find OneNote easier to use to store my to do's with additional info (text and images). This is very useful when working on individual projects and not having to switch to other apps. OneNote can work as a mood board, note taking, task management, reminders, even password management (you can password protect a particular section)
Cons:
The sync process could benefit from some improvements: as in the notebooks to be created by default in OneDrive or SharePoint. There are scenarios where the notebooks are created locally, then in order to sync one needs to put it manually on OneDrive or SharePoint.
Quick and Easy Note Taker
Comments: Overall experience was excellent and positive. It did everything we needed - ability to organize tasks, take notes for meetings, staff could refer back to our tipsheets.
Pros:
What I liked most is when traveling to seminars, my coworker and I could both be in OneNote at the same time taking notes and could sync and see each others notes. Love that it's so user friendly and easy to use.
Cons:
There's nothing that I can think of that was problematic in OneNote.
Engineering with Microsoft One Note
Comments: Very positive. It keeps me organized and all my thoughts in one place. I get coworkers coming up and asking me what I am using for note taking quite frequently.
Pros:
Great product for taking notes and staying organized at work. I love how it syncs across my Microsoft account to my phone.
Cons:
Unclear how to integrate handwriting when working on a laptop.
Note-Taking Powerhouse
Comments: Super helpful. Highly recommended. Helps to keep notes in one place
Pros:
I love this tool. I use it daily for my day to day work. Making notes, to do list, copying texts, images and video links. Super helpful. Highly recommended.
Cons:
can have the export option so hassle free in terms of exporting. sometime synching takes time
Microsoft OneNote
Comments: I've been using it already for at least 5 years and it's better with every next update
Pros:
easily switching between tabs, notes and nodes
Cons:
difficulties when switching between accounts inside Microsoft organization
OneNote - Great Documentation App
Comments: Excellent experience. Love using this program and look forward to learning how else I can utilize it in the future.
Pros:
OneNote is great for large companies. We use it everyday. It simplifies things and makes it very easy to share and transport files and documents. I like how you can save in different formats
Cons:
Nothing really. The user interface can take a little getting used to because of all the tools but that's really any Microsoft app.
An incredibly powerful one-stop-shop
Comments: Beyond these cons, OneNote is super-easy to use, powerful, and functional across all major platforms. Unfortunately, not all platforms offer the same features: Wiki-style links (creating links using [[ ]]) is not supported in the browser version nor on iPadOS.
Pros:
You can embed content from so many sites: Youtube, Thinglink, Coogle to name a few. Each notebook can contain as many section groups and sections as you want, with as many pages and sub-pages as you want. And each page is an infinite canvas. Bonus: You can store actual files on any pages that you can then later open in the appropiate app using a double click. The desktop version features OCR which is great for searching content in pictures.
Cons:
The way the infinite canvas works. You cannot scroll left or up from the top of the page - only right and down. That feels somewhat counterintuitive at times. Also, there should be easy sharing on the page level - as of the writing of this review, you can only share entire notebooks, meaning you give access to it all, even if all you wanted to do was to collaborate on a single page.

OneNote: a great foundation for collaboration
Comments:
OneNote has become central to our documentation at our organization. Especially after the integration between OneNote and Office 365 Groups and then Teams, the addition of the Collaboration Space and Documentation Library has helped us create central repositories that can be worked on simultaneously and frequently. Administration can collaborate and share materials and use the private spaces for groups members to take their own notes or have individual content distributed to them to work on or reflect upon.
I love this product and since growing with it in my career have also expanded to use it in my personal life for notetaking, organization, and planning.
Pros:
The notebook structure was very appealing to me when I first started using OneNote. Once I unbound myself from the concept of creating everything to translate to a printed letter size piece of paper it really took off. You can create your notebook and its contents to directly translate to what if it had to be printed. But you can also transform it to a fully interactive collection. With links to various other locations in the same notebook, other locations and materials on the internet, and even embedding videos and other documents directly in the pages of the notebook you can make the reach of the content presented to extend beyond the boundries of the document itself.
Cons:
The different versions - When OneNote transitioned to the web, it was during the focus on the Metro UI in Windows 8 and it suffered for it. The simplicity of what the web version could do was crippled by the ability of the internet browsers at the time. Over time it has increased in parity between the desktop version and the web, however - the Metro UI designed app has lingered and its design has stayed truer to the web version than the original desktop version. It is getting harder to find the desktop version that has content central and navigation to the left, top, and right sides. The web, mobile app, and "for windows 10" versions make navigation subjectively more complex when you have extensively robust notebooks.

The best choice for notetaking
Comments: My overall experience with OneNote has been positive. It does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Pros:
OneNote is incredibly easy to use and the interface makes it extremely simple to add to my notes as well as search them. I have to use OneNote constantly every day and it is my preferred notation program thanks to ease of use.
Cons:
When notebooks are shared via email or SharePoint invitations it does not automatically add the notebook to the users list of notebooks. I have had several users looking for notebooks which were essentially hiding under the "More Notebooks" button.
A simple tool to gather all my note in one place
Comments: I'm a supply chain analyst. I use Microsoft OneNote to gather informations from multiple source shared with me (mail, web, presentation, call) about supply chain operation. I also use it to organize my note regarding coding and datavisualization.
Pros:
I like the intuitiveness of Microsoft OneNote. I can copy-paste from multiple source (web, presentation, screenshot) while note taking. And it keep me organized in a fast-pacing work environnement. I also like the bulleting icon and tab it feels like a physical note taking tool. Which help me a lot switching from pen and paper.
Cons:
Sometime I find it difficult to format my note when it's relating to code. I really wish Microsoft make it connected for its PowerBI langage (M langage and DAX).
Alternatives Considered:
OneNote for Tutors
Comments: Overall, I would like to recommend everyone to use this app to prepare your notes. It's very handy and versatile.
Pros:
There are may features of Onenote which makes it useful like: 1. Clippers, which allow to move data from any browser to OneNote. 2. Can be used in multiple devices simulatneosly. 3. Allows to add Multimedia. 4. Doesn't have formatting contraint. 5. Document Management , division on basis of subject, Notebook, Pages. 6. Flexible formatting option. 7. Works very well in laptop, pc, android tab and mobile. 8. Can use Digital Pen.
Cons:
The Synchronisation with cloud features lags a lot. Many times doesn't works properly. Have to click sync many times and have to wait if internet is slow.
OneNote, a multipurpose 21st Century Tool for Lifelong Learners
Comments: I plan my classes and curate content. OneNote has helped me shape the way I organize and manage my classes and curate content as a participant, presenter and author. I can search content in all my notebooks in a very short time, create portfolios of learning progress over years, move, copy, archive and delete sections or pages. Digital ink, lasso conversion, linked notes, degrees of privacy, audio and video recordings, printouts, symbols, emoji, stickers, equations, drawing, dictionary tools with Thesaurus, immersive reader with speed and voice control, identification of main parts of speech, reading line focus, visual vocabulary input and image to text conversion are some of the most valuable features allowing the promotion , development and assessment of main 21st Century hard and soft skills in PBL ( Project Based Learning) , Remote Learning and Home Office Work. The Send to OneNote feature in different formats makes it unique since users can annotate their bookmarks and enhance them with extra content . App smashing through OneNote it effective since it allows multiple integrations with LMS, platforms like Buncee ,Wakelet, Office apps, Flipgrid, Genially, Whiteboard.chat, Kahoot, Quizlet, Sketchfab, PhET interactive simulations, Adobe Spark, EdPuzzle, Playposit, etc.
Pros:
I like everything. It helps me organize content, plan, deliver & assess learning paths, keep records of multimedia resources supporting learning beyond school walls through assistive technology, data management with support and feedback to allow student voice, choice and agency as well as autonomous learning.
Cons:
I only dislike the fact that I did not use it as a student. I wish I had had such a powerful learning app at school. It is permanently adding new features to make learning accessible, memorable and enjoyable not only for students but for PD , content curation and regular use at home.
Review of Microsoft OneNote
Comments: Yes, I start of saying that OneNote has been part of my life just before pandemic in March 2022. I have used it for lecture notes, live wiring in my video lectures and setting up questions for academics. It has been a very fruitful experience using OneNote. In fact watching my success with OneNote, i have my collogues also to use OneNote frequently. Students have loved it. It has become my sole source of communication and constant engagement with my learners during last 2 years. Loved using OneNote and will highly recommend OneNote to teachers community.
Pros:
OneNote is very easy to use, interface and collaborate in PC, and mobile simultaneously. The natural (handwritten) writings comes out as high quality and are visually appealing. I have been informed by lot of leaners that they loved the notes made in OneNote. The pdf output comes out as high quality every single time. The shapes feature in OneNote has also helped to lot of times , instead of drawing manual shapes. The stroke eraser and normal eraser of different sizes is a huge plus too. The feature called lasso has saves tons of my time to duplicate any content within OneNote workspace.
Cons:
Only it takes someone time to update the contents written. Perhaps the desktop version of OneNote if i felt is more powerful, would love to have similar capacity with mobile version of OneNote. L would be loved it even more when it would be indicated that i have written out of bound, meaning when i convert my writing content into pdf, sometimes content is cut horizontally or vertically, that means i have gone out of bounds of current workspace. That was frustrating sometimes when contents is really huge and has to be converted in one pdf. If OneNote has a feature to indicate the page limit that would be great.
One Note: Business Leader must have
Comments: Excellent program that have help me have everything in one place and perfectly organized.
Pros:
I am a leader in my organization and because of my position I have tons of meetings. This an excellent program for meetings preparation, take meetings notes and keep tracking of meeting next steps. You can create independents notebooks and you can share the notebooks with your peers. I monitor group vacations, birthdays, recognition, project status, metrics, etc.As leader I keep tracking of 1:1 meetings that I have with my staff by person and by dates and can monitor developmental plans, performance status and next steps. This works perfectly with excel and Outlook. You can share by e-mails all the minutes taken in a meeting.
Cons:
The program by itself it is simple to use, but if you are going to use linked with Outlook could be difficult to use. I asked for help to be able to do it.
Alternatives Considered:
Good Notes taking tool but must be use carefully
Comments: Excellent note tool for personal use.
Pros:
Great note taking tool with great features to personalize the note. Also the features to link the files to the notes is awesome. The tool as a great integration with Microsoft Teams.
Cons:
There is so much features in that tool that using it in a company can create operation issues because some users have a tendancy of using it to almost replace word, excel and even sometime Planner and SharePoint list and create conflict in processes internally. If you allow access to use for users, I recommend that internal trainings and monitoring of the tool be applied.
Microsoft One Note - A free Office 365 service

For me, OneNote is perfect for my usage because it is easy to use, it is easy to organize notes in a way that I can find them any time and anywhere. I’ve been using One Note for a couple of years now, and I’m an avid user of it. I use it to manage my projects and ideas, keep track of tasks and projects, and even keep track of the tasks and projects I’m currently working on.

It is a simple, straightforward, powerful tool for recording important information. 2.It allows users to create individual notes, which can be attached to each other, to themselves or to websites. The application supports PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. This application is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. 5.It is a free Office 365 service that makes it easy for you to create, organize, and share your ideas. It helps you take notes, brainstorm, and collect your thoughts with ideas that come to you anywhere, on any device.
Cons:
1. The main disadvantage of using Microsoft One Note is that it can be difficult to use because of the way it is laid out. In order to find information, you need to scroll through the pages and pages of data. 2. It is difficult to share the content with the other users. As a result, the users have to re-enter the content which is very difficult and time-consuming.
All your notes in one place
Comments: OneNotres has been a part of my arsenal of tools for the enterprise environment. I have used it on a personal level as well. I have used both the loal and cloud version, choosing the cloud due to my ability to access from any device. You can also add a local copy, depending on your subscription level, and sync your online content to your local machine. This helps in keeping your data in 2 places at once.
Pros:
Microsoft OneNotes offer a single place to enter, manage and access all your notes. It provides flexibility in how you organize your content. From simple note taking to more complex graphics and images, OneNotes lets you organize in efficient ways. The use of tags helps you find what you need across multiple notebooks, section and pages. No more having to navigate through complex and cumbersome folder hierarchies. OneNotes is a massive repository tool that takes the place of many other tools. Using OneNotes rids you of separate Tasks or To Do lists, file repositories, and even digital media. OneNotes lets you combine all your electronic files into a single place and manage it in a way that works for you. This level of flexibility is what gives OneNotes the power it has and its popularity.
Cons:
OneNotes tend to have a different layout between the online version and the downloaded version. This might bring some confusion to some users. Microsoft is moving more towards the cloud, and until this becomes the norm and their downloadable applications can mimic the cloud experience, there might be a bit of a learning curve.
The best free note-taking application
Comments:
With regards to picking the best note-taking application, there are two clear victors: Microsoft OneNote and Evernote. Both are PCMag Editors' Choices, and both have pluses and minuses. OneNote is greatly improved assuming you need a free application. Evernote has an alternate construction that makes it simpler to sort out, tag, find, and offer data, insofar as you're willing to follow through on its precarious cost. While the accompanying survey of OneNote is anything but a no holds barred correlation with Evernote, it's hard not to match them up in at minimum in a couple of regards. In general, and contrasted and all the other things available, OneNote is obviously one of the most outstanding note-taking applications. Whether you'll favor it to Evernote comes down to what you esteem in an application and how you use it.Can be slow and burdensome
Not really good or bad sharing choices
Web trimmer requirements improvement.
The amount Does OneNote Cost?
To utilize OneNote, you want some sort of Microsoft account, yet it doesn't need to be paid. Only having a free Outlook.com login will do.
OneNote is accessible to download for nothing on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. There's likewise a web application. You can involve it for nothing with practically no component limitations. You in all actuality do get a modest bunch of additional elements like Sticker and Math-assuming you have a paid Microsoft account. Free OneNote clients get 5GB of space.
Pros:
Rich with highlights Can separate text from pictures Liberal free form A lot of capacity Condition settling
Cons:
Can be slow and cumbersome Not terrible, but not great either sharing choices Web trimmer necessities improvement
OneNote Review
Comments: I keep a few main pages and have them broken up into broad categories, and then spilt the categories into pages to have a more streamlined way of keeping track of notes, links and files. It's really helpful for keeping track of tasks you don't do very opften, or if you are helping to onboard a new coworker too. I even keep a daily to-do list running, it's such a great help for staying organized and ahead of the game.
Pros:
What I like most about OneNote is it is my one-stop-shop to staying organized and on track without having to open a bunch of tabs/folders &/or documents. My favourite feature within OneNote is the ability to search, so if i can' remember where i stored some text or a document it just takes a second to find. Super easy & very efficient!
Cons:
I'm being very honest here, i can't think of anything that would make OneNote better, it's truly something I couldn't do my job without!
OneNote Review
Comments: It has been a godsend as I need a way to preserve and organize hundreds of documents that were previously maintained by a coworker who was retiring. I stepped in as the new knowledge keeper of the department but needed a better way to make sense of years' worth of information. OneNote allowed me to hyper organize all of the documentation while taking things to an even more detailed approach.
Pros:
This is an amazing way to maintain a knowledge base for my department in one convenient location instead of trying to keep track of countless documents.
Cons:
There are several ways to own a notebook (cloud, local storage, etc.) so it can be confusing to end users when trying to identify where they notebook "lives".
Alternatives Considered:
Managing tasks and To Do List along notes in one Place
Comments: Overall I found OneNote a very handy tool and the use of OneNote is very effective in an organization where they have to constantly make notes of things and keeping the track of the information.
Pros:
I have worked with OneNote for over 4 years now and I have been really impressed with the way it handles the data, Creating Workbooks and sheets, and sub-pages, and manages the sync with the cloud on all devices. It is very handy to keep note of every little detail and manage the To-Do List. Search functionality is great as it can scan through all pages and exporting the data is very easy.
Cons:
OneNote should use Addin to extract the information, sometimes formatting with text from various sources/platforms develop issues with the OneNote and the format changes.
